Raden Mas Soewardi Soerjaningrat (EBI: Suwardi Suryaningrat, since 1922 became Ki Hadjar Dewantara, EBI: Ki Hajar Dewantara, some examples of the sounds of Javanese with Ki Hajar Dewantoro; born in Pakualaman, 2 May 1889 - in Yogyakarta, 26 April 1959 ending 69 years; [1] hereinafter abbreviated as "Soewardi" or "KHD") is the Indonesian independence movement, columnist, politician, and educational pioneer for Indonesian natives from Dutch colonial times. He is the owner of Perguruan Taman Siswa, an educational institution that provides opportunities for pribumi to be able to obtain the right to education as well as the prijajis and the Dutch people.

The date of birth is now celebrated in Indonesia as National Education Day. Part of the motto of his creation, tut wuri handayani, became the slogan of the Indonesian Ministry of National Education. Its name is enshrined as one of the names of Indonesian warships, KRI Ki Hajar Dewantara. His portrait was immortalized on a 1998 edition of 20,000 rupiah banknotes. [2]

He was inaugurated as the 2nd national hero by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soekarno, on November 28, 1959 (Presidential Decree No. 305 of 1959, November 28, 1959). [3]
